Why safe evacuation matters
Having the ability to evacuate everyone safely during an emergency is essential. Without the correct equipment and preparation this can mean the difference between life and death for someone with a mobility impairment.
Our range of evacuation solutions meet the needs of any industry whether it be corporate, healthcare, travel, or a public sector setting. From ensuring employees and visitors can safely evacuate in a crisis to facilitating the smooth transport of patients in healthcare settings, Evac+Chair is a trusted partner. Having the correct equipment ensures accessibility and compliance.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, amended by the Fire Safety Act 2021 provides a framework for regulating fire safety in all non-domestic premises, including workplaces and the parts of multi-occupancy residential buildings.
As part of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, amended by the Fire Safety Act 2021, the responsible person (for example: owner of the building or person in charge) in any commercial building or premises where the public has access, is required to carry out a building fire risk assessment and take all necessary steps to reduce or eliminate the risk of fire.
The responsible person has a duty of care, to ensure premises meet the required standards and employees are provided with adequate fire safety training.
It is no longer the responsibility of the fire service to evacuate people from a refuge area. The responsible person must ensure provisions are in place so that mobility impaired employees or visitors can be safely evacuated.
By having an Evac+Chair on-site, your clients are not just protecting those present today, they are preparing for the unexpected. At Evac+Chair, we provide a full range of evacuation and mobility solutions.

FAQs
What if there isn’t anyone on the premises who requires assistance?
Even if no one requires assistance, the primary purpose of an Evac+Chair is to ensure preparedness for unforeseen circumstances. Emergencies such as fires or medical incidents can occur at any time, and you may have visitors, contractors, or temporary occupants who require assistance evacuating safely. Being prepared ensures compliance, enhances safety, and provides peace of mind in critical situations.
Additionally, having an Evac+Chair shows a proactive commitment to safety and inclusivity. It helps ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, amended to The Fire Safety Act in 2021. This legislation requires the responsible person to ensure that the building meets the required standard and that employees are provided with fire safety training. By having an Evac+Chair on-site, you’re not just protecting those present today, but preparing for the unexpected.
Are Evac+Chairs expensive?
Whilst the investment may seem significant, the risk of being unprepared in emergency can be far greater. The safety of your employees, customers, and visitors far outweighs the expense.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, to the highest quality standards. Its durability ensures long-term reliability, and when considered over time, the cost per year becomes highly reasonable making it a smart, long-term investment in safety and compliance.
Are Evac+Chair’s difficult to operate?
Evac+Chair’s are easy to operate, however we strongly advise that organisations complete certified Evac+Chair training. This will instil confidence and competence in operators, allowing delegates to experience the Evac+Chair from an Operator and passenger perspective.
Evac+Chair offer certified nationwide training courses to ensure the safe and effective operation on their range of evacuation chairs, equipping operators with the knowledge and skills to handle emergency evacuations. Evac+Chair training courses empower organisations to protect lives with confidence, offering two training courses: a Key Trainer and an Operator course.
Both courses equip delegates with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate an Evac+Chair safely and efficiently, instilling confidence and competence. The Key Trainer provides additional knowledge to cascade the training throughout the workplace and certify others.
Emergency evacuations are infrequent; do we need an Evac+Chair?
Risks are increasing and as a result disasters are on the rise. Being prepared for the unexpected is therefore critical to saving and protecting lives.
Without the correct provisions and a robust plan, you are amplifying the level of risk which will result in delays and impede an evacuation. In addition, failure to meet the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, amended to The Fire Safety Act in 2021 could result in fines or a charge of corporate manslaughter, in event of a fatality.
An Evac+Chair isn’t just a device for emergency response, it’s a statement of commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone. By investing in an Evac+Chair, organisations ensure compliance with safety regulations whilst providing years of peace of mind with a reliable, long-term solution for safe evacuations.
Do we need an Evac+Chair, if we have an evacuation solution?
Whilst there is an array of evacuation solutions available, the Evac+Chair has been independently tested and proven to be the safest and fastest means of evacuation. Installing an Evac+Chair will complement and enhance an existing solution, providing flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of an organisation and its personnel.
Do Evac+Chairs require much storage space?
Evac+Chairs are designed to be compact and space efficient. They can be stowed in a number of ways, wall mounted, stored in an Evac+Chair cabinet or on a Evac+Chair stand.
Is it safe to carry someone up or down stairs in an emergency?
It is not advisable to carry someone up/downstairs in an emergency. This could impede the evacuation, cause injury to those assisting and the person being carried and increases the level of risk.
Our building and workforce are small; do we still need an Evac+Chair?
Being prepared to protect and save lives is imperative in any organisation, regardless of the building scale or number of personnel. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, amended to The Fire Safety Act in 2021 applies to all nondomestic premises including workplaces and the parts of multi-occupancy residential buildings, having the provisions in place, such as an Evac+Chair will ensure organisations comply.
Do Evac+Chairs require regular maintenance?
Evac+Chairs are a Class 1 Medical Device and adhere to the PUWER Regulation – The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). To help customers meet this regulation, Evac+Chair offer 1, 3 and 5-year maintenance plans, conducted by a nationwide team of inhouse service engineers, who inspect, service, and where necessary, replace worn or any damaged parts with genuine components.
To ensure an Evac+Chair remains fully operational and compliant, regular maintenance is essential. Annual servicing not only protects your investment but also guarantees the safety of everyone who relies on your evacuation equipment.
