Top Performance from Evac+Chair at the Birmingham Hippodrome

Birmingham Hippodrome is replacing all its old emergency evacuation chairs with Evac+Chairs to improve ease of handling and evacuation.

With an auditorium seating 1,843 people the Hippodrome needs the Evac+Chairs not just to safely evacuate the mobility impaired in the event of a fire, but for removing members of the audience should they be taken ill.

The Evac+Chair 110 model, which is narrow enough to push between rows, was chosen for the dress circle, and the standard model was selected for the stalls.

The Hippodrome’s customer services manager David Eden said, “ We saw the Evac+Chair at the Birmingham Rep and were very impressed with how easy it is to operate in comparison with our existing chairs which are cumbersome and need 2 to 4 people to lift them. The Evac+Chair glides down steps and can be operated effortlessly by one person which is fantastic from a manual handling point of view.”

Manufactured in the UK, to exacting, market leading standards, the Evac+Chair enables a single user to evacuate a person of up to 150kg quickly and easily using continuous belts to provide controlled descent over stair nosings in proportion to passenger weight.

Evac+Chair International also provided training to Birmingham Hippodrome, which allowed ‘key trained’ Hippodrome staff to internally train other staff to operate the chairs, with evacuation drills taking place every 6 weeks. “The after-sales service support we have received from the company has been excellent and extremely comprehensive, which is just as important as product quality,” added Mr Eden.

The company also offer nationwide on-site servicing of the chairs and have just introduced a low-cost rental and service package on the chairs to allow those with budgetary constraints to comply instantly with regulations.
