Evac+Chair at Spinnaker Tower

Evac+Chair at Spinnaker Tower

Following a review and liaison with Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service and Portsmouth City Council, the operators of the Spinnaker Tower, at Portsmouth harbour, introduced Evac+Chair to enable more visitors to enjoy the spectacular views from the Tower. Currently being a one-lift operation, all visitors need to be able to exit the tower via the staircase should there be an emergency.

Visitors who are unable to walk down the stairs with assistance (from one of the Tower team) are now able to go up the Tower to View Decks 1 and 2, providing they have a helper to accompany them on their visit; and are able to transfer to the Evac+Chair and weigh less than 23 stones.

Since August 2006, the Tower’s dedicated ‘Help & Booking Line’ has been available for any visitor who may need to use the Evac+Chair in an emergency or wish to take their wheelchair onto the View Decks. Bookings should be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance, by calling 02392 730044 between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday. The Spinnaker Tower encourages such visitors to book in advance as there is limited availability.

The Spinnaker Tower is currently open from 10am to 10pm every day. Since opening in October 2005 the Tower has become a hugely successful visitor attraction, receiving over 450,000 visitors from all over the world. It has also become a popular venue for private parties and corporate hire.
